Woman, Wife, Mother—Theme Poems

Woman—
Never Give Up

First
I must
speak of woman—

Because
life exists
because of one

And
I shall
always be one

Just
as I
am right now—

Making
mistakes, but
never giving up.

Wife—
Never Give Up

Second
I will
speak of wife—

Because
we yearn
to be one

And
many shall
someday be one

Just
as I
am right now—

Making
mistakes, but
never giving up.

Mother—
Never Give Up

Third
I shall
speak of mother—

Because
we all
have had one,

And
many will
someday be one

Just
as I
am right now—

Making
mistakes, but
never giving up.

I Am a Woman

When
I was
a little girl,
I thought about the
woman I would be someday.

Not
that I
knew that much
about womanhood at the
time, but I was curious . . .

Curious
to find
out what was
happening in the life
of a grown-up woman.

I
could read
many different stories
in the faces of
the women that I knew,

And
I was
eager to make
my mark and write
a story of my own.

So,
now I
am a woman . . .
but do I really
yet know who I am?

Somewhere
I hear
a soft, eternal
whisper that says I
was born to be a Queen.

Now,
isn’t that
a ridiculous idea?
Me? Become a Queen?
Oh, yes . . . I remember now . . .

I Am a Wife

When
I was
a little girl,
I thought about the
wife I would be someday.

I
had read
enough stories about
Cinderella and Snow While
to know I would succeed!

In
red ink,
“happily-ever-after”
was engraved in the
memories of my mind,

While
my heart
was anxiously awaiting
my Prince Charming to
come and make me happy.

Now
I realize
I must create
my own happiness and
share it with my husband,

For
reality often
shatters illusions and
silently steals the sparkle,
discouraging me from even trying.

Yet
the words
“committed-ever-after”
are what makes marriages
flourish and dreams come true.

Yes,
the love
I have beats
any fairy-tale because
it has so many possibilities.

I Am a Mother

When
I was
a little girl,
I thought about the
mother I would be someday.

I
knew I
would be perfect—
never raising my voice
at my sweet little angels.

I
envisioned rocking
contented babies and
having delightful tea parties
at least once a day.

Now
I find
myself wishing to
regain some of that
little-girl-kind-of-patience—

To
help me
ignore the voices
that would draw me
away from my children prematurely.

I
must remember
that while becoming
a mother may be
by chance or a choice,

Being
a mother
means always looking
at life from the
bottom side of butterfly wings—

Where
the happy
magic of childhood
is passed on from
one generation to the next.

Song for a Woman

When
a woman’s
heart is sad,

And
words alone
do not heal,

She
will mend
her broken wings

With
the solace
of a song

Then
fly to
meet her destiny.

Song for a Wife

When
a wife’s
heart is sad,

And
words alone
do not heal,

She
will mend
her broken wings

With
the solace
of a song

Then
fly to
meet her destiny.

Song for a Mother

When
a mother’s
heart is sad,

And
words alone
do not heal,

She
will mend
her broken wings

With
the solace
of a song

Then
fly to
meet her destiny.
