You Can Become New
On most days, I am an optimistic, cheerful, positive person. Some days, however, my mind goes into a steep decline and spirals downward with destructive thoughts. I have found it is most helpful at times like this to grab my journal and start writing down all my feelings. This is part of my journal entry from December 6, 2017:
I find myself being tormented from time to time by Satan’s negative thoughts about the past. The thought that came to me to rebuff him was this:
I AM A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST WILL STAY IN THE PAST.
MY FUTURE IS BRIGHT IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST.
As I pondered on these words, I realized that they tied directly to a scripture from the New Testament, which I’ve read on several occasions:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:
old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Yes. The past is the past.
Jesus Christ will help me to be a “new creature” through His Atonement. I can become new and stay new—forever!
