Living Life: Resilience
I was looking online to see if the 1985 music tape, “Bounce Back!” still existed because I wanted to share it on my blog. I FOUND IT! I was so thankful to Jason Poole for taking the time to remaster this tape! I cried all the way through the last song on the album, “You’re Not Alone,” which had given me so much strength and the courage to keep going on years ago. I hope my family and friends and future generations will enjoy learning as much about resilience from these bounce-back messages as I did in 1985! It’s just as relevant today as it was then! Awesome!
This is an excerpt from what Jason Poole wrote about “Bounce Back!” on YouTube:
While searching for my old seminary music from the 80's, I came across this free cassette tape created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is over 3 decades old. I digitized the tape and remastered the audio to the best of my ability. This music is the end result.
The point of this tape is that sometimes life is hard. We get depressed or anxious. We may have lost a job, lost a good friend, become very sick, etc. However, we can "Bounce Back" from these troubled times. We all wish it was easy to "bounce back" or "pick yourself up". Unfortunately, it is not easy, especially when you are in the midst of the trial.
There are things you can do to begin to bounce back. However, the most important thing you can do is to find someone you can talk with and let them know how you are feeling. Please remember, Heavenly Father loves you and is always listening.

I remember often listening to this musical tape because it lifted my spirits as I worked hard at creating a happy marriage and mothering my many young children—while trying to keep up with all the responsibilities that go along with home and family life. This song made me smile, relieved my stress, and helped me keep everything in an eternal perspective. I hope you will listen to “Bounce Back!” and share this message of resilience with others!
Resilience Training
I was recently introduced to an online resilience course called, "Resilience Skills in a Time of Uncertainty." This course is being taught by Karen Reivich, Ph.D. who is the Director of Resilience Training Services at the University of Pennsylvania. Reivich was one of my sister Robin’s professors.
I signed up for this free resilience course and only listened to the first lesson so far, but it was both insightful and inspiring! I encourage everyone to read books, listen to podcasts, or take a course about learning resilience skills. The crashing waves of uncertainty, in which we are currently living, will be better navigated if we have learned to be resilient.
